Re: Killer Version of Loser by Dave Alvin |
Sac--thanks so much for the tremendous effort you put into this...For years I played that tape (should've, could've, would've made a BACKUP!?!), and the 3 mins was amazing energy, just literally blasted you away...now I fear it was my imagination, and if I found the song, would lament the reality as less than the memory, BUT willing to risk it!
Have looked far and wide for compilations of that show (the DEAD played too, that is why I taped, I think, but they sucked by comparison to those three short songs).
FYI, I grew up to the southwest of you...

My guess is it was NOT your imagination--The Blasters are nothing if not passionate, balls-to-the-wall rock. Tremendous energy. Still around, banging away in the clubs. They've done a few reunion tours (02 & 04, I think) with Dave, but he and brother Phil are famously combative (much like the Davies brothers), and can only share the same stage occasionally. I googled The Boll Weevil Song, and I'm sure you can DL or stream any number of versions--just NOT The Blasters from farm Aid, I'm afraid. There are a couple of guys that are reachable from the Blasters website
http://www.davealvin.com/blasters/index.html and they may be able to help you find a recording. Billy Davis runs the Blasters Newsletter, and Scot (?) is the webmaster try
